What we do best

Early orthodontic treatments, ages 7-10

What is Phase One?

Glad You Asked

Generally in orthodontics, treatment can be accomplished in a single phase. However, there are certain issues that require ‘Early Treatment’ or what is called Phase 1. This is a limited treatment phase aimed at correcting only a specific set of problems. Phase 1 treatment does not mean that your child will not need comprehensive treatment or a potential ‘Phase 2’ later. Early treatment is only indicated in the presence of certain issues that are more appropriately addressed at an early age. These issues include but are not limited to: anterior crossbite, posterior crossbite, ectopic eruption, habit elimination, severe crowding, psychosocial issues and more.

Why Phase One?

At the Ortho Barr we believe that in phase 1 ‘less is more’. Our treatment options are designed to address your child’s needs as efficiently and minimally as possible. This helps with the financial burden as well as helping your child avoid being ‘burnt out’ by a prolonged early treatment length. All treatment plans are tailored specifically to your child’s needs. In fact we have an in-house lab where we make all of our appliances which is a huge advantage when it comes to repairs and the ability to customize. The following are typical phase 1 treatments at The Ortho Barr:

  • Palatal Expanders
  • Space Maintenance
  • Removable Retainers
  • Limited Bracket Placement
  • Class II Correctors
  • Class III Correctors
  • Habit Cessation Appliances
